Bio

Alejandra Manzur was born on September 4th, 1976 in Rosario.

Education. She began her musical studies at an early age at J. B. Massa Rosario Municipal School of Music. Then, she followed academic piano studies with Professor Zulma Cabrera at Rosario National School of Music, where she graduated as a National Music Teacher specialized in Piano (1994). She also completed her Composition studies with Jorge Molina at Rosario National University (UNR) Higher Music Institute, where she obtained the Harmony and Counterpoint Technician degree (2002) and the B.A. degree in Composition (2003). In 2003, she received graduation honors for achieving the highest grade point average in her generation.

Between 1985 and 1995 she completed popular music studies at Rosario School of Musicians, where she took lessons with Charly Pagura, Ivan Tarabelli, Alberto Callacci, Jorge Fandermole, and Adriana Sansone.

She has taken private lessons with several teachers: lyrical singing with Alcira Rodríguez; popular singing with Liliana Vitale; tango language with Javier Martínez Lo Re; piano lessons with Ricardo Vidal, and composition lessons with Jorge Horst. She has attended several courses and workshops including piano lessons with Eduardo Delgado; analysis lessons with Francisco Kröpfl; chamber music lessons with Ricardo Vidal and David del Pino; singing lessons with Fernando Lara; tango arrangement lessons with Rodolfo Mederos; "El piano en el folklore argentino" (Piano in Argentinean Folk Music) by Hilda Herrera, Lilián Saba and Carlos Aguirre, and Latin American folk rhythms lessons with Juancho Perone.

Composer. In March 2006, during the 30th anniversary of the last military coup in Argentina, the Provincial Symphony Orchestra of Rosario, conducted by Maestro J. Logioia Orbe, executed her work "Búsquedas y repeticiones" at Civic Square in Rosario.

In 2006 she released her first discographic work, "Canto que viene". In this album, which mainly includes compositions of her authorship, she performs as a singer, pianist, and percussionist.

Her musical work "Sensaciones" for fl. and two pianos is part of the album entitled Música Académica Latinoamericana, released by Rosario National University (2010).

She has also composed soundtracks. These include the soundtracks of "¡Oh! Imperfecta…" contemporary dance play by Paula Manaker (2010), which was awarded the play production subsidy from the National Theatre Institute (INT); the play "La bicicleta" directed by Walter Operto (2001); and "Entrelazos", a video directed by Silvia Duarte (2003) and presented at 2003 Iquique Festival (Chile) and 2003 Rosario Latin American Video Festival.

Singer. During 1999 she integrated the Jazz and Bossa Nova ensemble of UNR Higher Music Institute, and between 1996 and 1999 she was a steady member of the UNR Polyphonic Chorus. She participated as singer at "4 cuartetos" theatrical performance organized by Rosario Town Hall's Secretary Office of Culture and Education. On several occasions she has performed as an invited singer and interpreted bossa nova, tango, Argentinean and Latin American folk music works. She shared stages with In Streto guitar quartet, Alberto Bono, Víctor Rodríguez, Eduardo Spinazi, Juancho Perone and Adrián Abonizio, among others.

Pianist. She has integrated chamber music ensembles which have performed on several stages in Rosario and musicalized the presentation of the book "Cuando el tiempo era otro" by Gladys Onega at B. Rivadavia Cultural Center.

Research. She was awarded a grant from the Undersecretary Office of Culture and Education of the Province of Santa Fe after winning 1998 and 1999 Education and Training Grant Contests consecutively, which allowed her to complete two research works about Argentinean Folk Music. Directed by Dr. Omar Corrado, she then completed the research work "Una aproximación al lenguaje del chamamé a través del análisis de diferentes versiones de la Colonia y la Calandria" (An Approach to Chamame Language through the Analysis of Different Versions of La Colonia and La Calandria), which was presented at the First Musical Research Conference taking place at UNR Higher Music Institute (2005).

Teaching. She is member of the Composition, Instrumentation and Analysis Chair at UNR Higher Music Institute of the College of Humanities and Arts and associate professor of the Audio Perception Chair at Music Therapy career, Universidad Abierta Interamericana. She has also served as professor of Vocal Technique at Profesorado de Música in Victoria city (Entre Rios).
